Sharjah is noticeably more affordable than Dubai (AED 1 ≈ €0.25). Tuition varies widely by university: from the federal institutions (AED 20,000 to 60,000/year) to the branch campuses (AED 50,000 to 130,000/year).
Frequently asked questions
Can I work during my studies?
Yes, with a no-objection certificate (NOC) from your university: around 15 to 20 hrs/week depending on the institution, often through internships or on-campus jobs.
How does the Golden Visa work?
Graduates of accredited Emirati universities with a GPA of 3.75+ can obtain 10 years of residency without an employer sponsor, with the option of sponsoring their family.
Is a branch campus degree worth the same as the home campus one?
Yes: Manchester Dubai or Heriot-Watt Dubai award exactly the same degree as the original campus, with the same accreditation.
What overall budget should I plan for?
This is a premium destination: between tuition and living costs, expect the equivalent of €15,000 to €40,000/year depending on the university. Merit scholarships (10 to 50%) cut the bill.
Can I settle in the Emirates long term?
Residency remains tied to employment or status (5-year Green Visa, 10-year Golden Visa): there is no Canadian-style permanent residency, but renewals are very accessible for skilled profiles.
