St George’s University places more graduates into US medical residencies than any other school in the world.

One Caribbean island, one university: St George’s University places more graduates into US medical residencies than any other medical school in the world. For future doctors aiming at America, it is a serious, well-marked route.

Why Grenada?

  • Number 1 for US residenciesMore than 1,049 SGU graduates placed into US residencies in 2025: more than any American or Canadian medical school.
  • Solid accreditationWFME-recognised through 2032, USMLE and ECFMG eligible: the degree qualifies you to practise in all 50 US states.
  • A campus of the world150 nationalities on a tropical seafront campus, then two years of clinical rotations across 75+ hospitals in the United States and the United Kingdom.
  • Scholarships are the norm75% of admitted students receive an SGU scholarship: financial strategy is part of the plan from day one.

Admission requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree with science prerequisites (biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, physics) for entry to the 4-year MD; 5 to 7 year tracks exist straight after high school
  • A GPA of around 3.0+ (3.2+ in sciences to be competitive)
  • MCAT recommended, around 498 – 504
  • English: IELTS 7.0 (no band below 6.5) if your previous studies were not in English

Frequently asked questions

Does an SGU degree let me practise in the United States?

Yes: SGU is WFME-recognised and its graduates sit the USMLE, then apply for residencies through the ECFMG and the Match. It is the standard route for internationally trained doctors.

Who is this route for?

Students with strong science backgrounds aiming at North American medicine without a seat in a US medical school. The workload is real: SGU demands genuine academic strength.

What about Europe or the UK?

SGU has a British track (NHS rotations and licensure through the GMC). For a Europe-focused plan, we also compare medicine in Cyprus or Hungary, which costs far less.

How much does the full programme cost?

Around $375,000 in tuition over 4 years, excluding living costs. SGU scholarships (75% of admits receive one) and US loans structure the financing.

What is life on the island like?

A modern seafront campus, a community of 150 nationalities and an intense study pace: the first two years are spent in Grenada, the following ones in hospitals in the United States or the United Kingdom.

Figures and rules verified at the time of publication: fees, scholarships and visa conditions change regularly. Every detail is confirmed with you, up to date, during the consultation.
